From a functional fitness perspective, it\u2019s strength that allows us to accomplish daily life activities like push open doors, carry groceries, or pick up kids. Resistance training and lifting weights can sometimes get a bad rep (pun intended!), due to fear of becoming \u201ctoo bulky\u201d. But every athlete of every level needs to incorporate strength exercises that will in turn prevent injury, increase performance, and improve joint function.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is there are many ways you can strengthen your muscles, whether at home or the gym.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Different Types of Resistance Training<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bodyweight<\/strong> \u2013 your own weight can be used for movements like squats, lunges, push-ups, and core work. Using your own body weight is convenient if you have no equipment or when traveling.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Free weights<\/strong> \u2013 classic strength training tools such as dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, or medicine balls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Resistance bands<\/strong> \u2013essentially giant rubber bands that provide resistance when stretched. They are portable and can be adapted to most workouts. The bands provide continuous resistance throughout a movement, making it challenging and building strength.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Weight machines<\/strong> \u2013 devices that have adjustable seats with handles attached to weights.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Still need convincing?
