We’ve all read about the negative effects of sitting for long periods of time. But on the other hand, if you stand for more than five hours a day, you could be at risk for a host of other issues.
A study conducted at ETH Zürich in Switzerland found that “occupational activities requiring prolonged standing are likely to contribute to lower-extremity and/or back disorders.” Maria-Gabriela Garcia, lead author of the study, makes some helpful recommendations to potentially alleviate these effects. Whether your work requires you to be on your feet all day or even just part of the day, make sure you have a pair of comfortable work shoes or office shoes with built-in arch support.
